I travelled across from Aughton to Birkdale this morning to specifically purchase a bottle of Armagnac that I had seen on the Majestic website. On arrival I was disappointed to discover that not only was that particular Armagnac not in stock, but there was no Armagnac at all. I nevertheless purchased a couple of cases of wine whilst I was there (including 6 Whispering Angel at a promotion price of £19.99 a bottle, reduced from £23.99, but only if 6 bottles were purchased) and to make the trip worthwhile.......or so I thought. Having been unable to purchase the Armagnac I had noticed a small wine/spirit shop across the road and decided to see if they stocked Armagnac. They actually had 3 types. However, when purchasing a bottle noticed they also sold Whispering Angel but at £16.99 a bottle and with no requirement to purchase half a dozen. A difference of £18.00 per case on my promotion purchase from Majestic or £7.00 cheaper per bottle if buying individually. Not a great experience all round and I will certainly be reconsidering any future 1 hour round trips to Majestic in light of this as there would appear little or no benefit.
